Joel LaHaie is a fisheries scientist with 17 years of experience in the fisheries industry, with a strong background in field evaluations, equipment installations, and oversight of teams in remote locations. He started his fisheries career as a fish culturist in Chinook Salmon restoration programs in the Columbia River Basin before working for nearly 10 years as an AutoFish specialist in the coded wire tag industry. Joel successfully led research and development efforts and trained large teams to deploy AutoFish marking and tagging systems throughout North America. Joel subsequently worked on multiple acoustic telemetry evaluations at hydroelectric projects with various species of salmonids, sturgeon, and lamprey. He has successfully deployed complex acoustic and passive integrated transponder arrays at multiple hydroelectric projects. Joel obtained his bachelor’s degree in biology from Central Washington University and is licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard as an operator of uninspected passenger vessels.
