Doug Peterson is a fisheries scientist with over two decades of experience leading applied research studies that provide practical guidance and tools for natural resource managers. His background includes designing and implementing complex biological and ecological investigations to support species conservation. Most recently these efforts were focused on the effects of climate change on wild and captive fish populations, decision support for conservation of at-risk freshwater fishes, monitoring fish migration and assessing mitigation at passage barriers, control and management of invasive species, evaluating the outmigration success of steelhead reared in water-saving aquaculture systems, and using passive integrated transponder- (PIT-) tagging technologies to measure survival and movement of fish and other animals. Doug is experienced with reporting how projects meet operational and policy objectives; producing peer-reviewed publications; and interpreting and summarizing results of complex ecological investigations for dissemination to diverse audiences.
Doug has a Ph.D. in Fisheries from Colorado State University, an M.S. in Fisheries from the University of Washington, and a B.A. in Biology from Whitman College. In his free time, Doug enjoys fishing, upland bird hunting, watching soccer, and travelling (especially to the Pacific Coast).
